“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”
― Wendell Berry
As we all know this is farming based community, we run and thrive as long as the land is worked. Currently we are working to put this into a fully functional farm with a new process. As coming up on January 4th (tbd) we are holding a meeting to decide how we are going to devise the farm this coming year. We must work as a community, as the saying goes “A well oiled machine”. We will need to be a group, a conglomeration of people coming together to create a farm, no one of us able to be done without.
As we stand now, we now have 9 new animals on the farm, 1 Turken (turkey chicken mix), 2 roosters, and 6 hens. We are thinking of adding more animals come spring, but has not been decided yet. Come this meeting we hope to set up people in charge of each section to make sure each section is cared for, the hope is come spring we will work to get sections in the ground and have help from people in the community surrounding areas. Not just them though, all who wish to help are welcome. A hope is to have work weekends in which all who want to help show up and get their hands in the dirt! We are also not just in need of labor thought, for those who cannot show up in person the option is there to support us with some funding. We need funding for equipment, supplies and for projects to come, for example we need to get the fencing for the new permanent chicken enclosure, where it is now is a temporary holding area, we need chicken fencing which sadly is not free. As we move onto this next season we hope as a community to grow in strength and as a family!
